Playing audio cds on Linux from the command line with mplayer

$ mplayer /dev/cdrom ? nope!
$ mplayer -cdrom-device /dev/cdrom ? nope !

Try this -- and if you're getting choppy playback, define a cache buffer:

$ mplayer cdda:// -cache 5000
