One of the features I love the most in
Gimp is cutting an area, and creating a new image from the cut area with file->new. Pre Gimp 2.4, this defaulted the new image's size to the size of the cut area. I do this all the time for creating and editing screenshots. This outstanding feature seemed to be missing from Gimp 2.4, which now defaults new images to stock sizes.
Fortunately, it turns out this is a feature, not a bug. It's been moved to Edit->Paste As->New Image, which does the same thing with one less click. Apparently the old behavior
wasn't intuitive to most users.
Also, if you haven't seen Gimp 2.4 yet, you won't recognize the squared corners on the selected area. This is another great new feature: you can resize the selected area!
